How we check companies
European SaaS lists 236 software companies in 31 categories. Every one of them is headquartered in Europe, and this page explains how we decide that and what the facts on each company page mean.
Who we list
A company is listed when all of these are true:
- Its headquarters is in the EU, the EEA (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway), the United Kingdom or Switzerland, as stated in its own imprint, terms or privacy policy.
- It sells software that businesses or professionals can sign up for and use today.
- It is an established product run by a company, not a side project.
These do not count as European headquarters on their own:
- being founded in Europe, if the headquarters has since moved elsewhere;
- offering an EU data centre or EU hosting region;
- a European subsidiary of a company headquartered outside Europe.
How we verify headquarters
We read the legal pages the company publishes about itself: the imprint, the terms of service and the privacy policy. They name the legal entity that provides the service and its registered address, which is more reliable than an “About us” page or press coverage. We record the city and country from those pages.
Where the contracting entity depends on where the customer is, for example a US company for customers outside Europe and a European one for customers inside it, we look at where the parent company is headquartered.
We have removed companies that turned out to fail this test, including some that are widely described as European: Grafana Labs, Hugging Face and ElevenLabs are all headquartered in New York. If you think a listed company does not meet the criteria, please tell us.
What the facts on a company page mean
- Headquarters
- City and country from the company's own legal pages, checked as described above.
- Data residency
- “EU only” means the company says customer data is hosted in Europe. “EU region available” means you can choose European hosting. “Not stated” means we found no public statement, so ask the vendor before you sign.
- Security certifications
- Listed only when the company itself holds the certificate, confirmed on its own website. A data centre's certification does not count, and neither does “in progress”. Each company page says whether we have checked and found certifications, checked and found none, or not checked yet.
- Pricing
- From the company's pricing page when we listed or last updated it. Prices change, so check the vendor's site before buying.
- Team size, funding, founding year
- Shown only where we could find a source. Otherwise the page says “Not stated”.
How the site is paid for
Listing is free. Companies can pay €79 for priority review, which gets them a decision within one business day instead of two weeks. Paying buys speed, nothing else: paid and free listings go through the same check and are shown the same way, and a company we can't list gets its money back.
Some links to vendors are affiliate links, described on the affiliate disclosure page. They do not affect whether or where a company is listed.
Corrections and contact
If a fact on the site is wrong or out of date, or you think a company should not be listed, email submit@european-saas.eu. We correct errors as soon as we have checked them. To add a company, use the submission form. The operator of the site is named in the imprint.
