Graphcore is a UK-based AI hardware company founded in 2016 in Bristol, designing Intelligence Processing Units (IPUs) — specialized chips purpose-built for machine learning and AI workloads. Unlike NVIDIA's GPUs which were originally designed for graphics, Graphcore's IPU architecture was designed from the ground up for AI computation, offering advantages in model parallelism and sparse data handling. The company's Bow IPU was the world's first processor built with 3D wafer-on-wafer technology.
